Intel has unveiled the brand name for its high-performance graphics cards: Intel Arc. We'll see the first generation of these new GPUs launching in early 2022 under the code name, Alchemist.
The desktop and console discrete GPU market, which some might consider a duopoly, will be a hard nut to crack after all these years. Nvidia dominates on the PC, with AMD occupying a sliver of PCs and owning the graphics in major consoles such as the Xbox Series X and Series S, PS5 and more. Simply delivering competitive performance may not be enough.
According to the Intel Graphics Product Team, we’ll hear more in the upcoming weeks and months about the performance of the Intel Arc products. The hardware will be ready for all kinds of loads - gaming, streaming, multitasking, and the people behind the product want to bring it to “three billion gamers across the world”.
